ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES
A Levels and AAQs:
• Study three (or occasionally four) A Levels and/or
AAQ subjects
• 38 subjects to choose from
• Two-year course
• A Levels - assessment is predominantly by examination
• AAQs – assessment is a mix of examinations and
course work
• Opportunity to join the Honours Programme and
complete the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
• GCSE Mathematics resit may be taken where
appropriate, alongside a main programme of study
Academic subjects will appeal strongly to students who:
• Have enjoyed academic teaching and learning at school
WHAT IS AN AAQ?
AAQ stands for Alternative Academic Qualification,
a new type of Level 3 qualification, designed
to complement A Levels, offering a pathway to
higher apprenticeships and university.
• Thrive from examinations being the main form or a key
element of assessment
• Wish to study traditional subjects such as English,
History, Mathematics etc at a higher level
• Have aspirations for a career where academic subjects
are presently the preferred entry route. eg. Medicine,
Veterinary Science, Law
